Cornelissen Violin

This violin was made by one of the world's premiere living violin makers Marten Cornelissen, commissioned in 1968 by a violinist who played it in the New York Philharmonic.

She played it in the Philharmonic for 25 years and then died. It was being sold through her estate, and I borrowed some money from my grandparents to buy it (fine violins ain't cheap).

Marten Cornelissen started making violins in his native Holland, and then emigrated to the US. He settled in Northampton Massachusetts, and this is one of the first violins he made there... it happens that Northampton is the town I was born in as well. Coincidence? Perhaps...
