Rebab (Bali)
The Rebab is similar to
the Erhu, but it has a goat skin covering the wooden body.
Only the top string is played, with the second string just
providing tension on the bridge to give it a "singing"
tone.
I ended up defying tradition by tuning and playing on both
strings.
I have two Rebabs, a modern one, and one that is over 100
years old. The old one has a wonderful carved face on the
back... to ward off unwanted evil notes.
